The Texas lawyer nominated to the US Supreme Court by President George W Bush, Harriet Miers, has withdrawn as a nominee to the court.

Ms Miers, who has served as White House counsel for Mr Bush but has no judicial experience, has come in for criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.

It's great that she's stepped down. We'd probably end up in hell if she was on the supreme court.

I think the reason he nominated her was because he felt like he owed her something - she was one of the people that helped hide his records so that he could run for president in the first place.

You know things are getting bad when both Democrats and Republicans are against you..
