Maybe you've heard about that lady who lost a son in the Iraq war and was protesting in front of Bush's ranch in Texas. Well it turns out that the Army had knowingly lied about the cause of her son's death for over a year. The mother was initially told that her son was killed by enemy fire while on a combat mission in Najaf. She was then informed, one year later, that the true cause of her son's death was accidental friendly fire. A tank had backed up into a tree, causing a branch to strike the unmanned machine gun. The impact discharged a round into 1st Lieutenant Kenneth Ballard at close range. He died of his injures shortly thereafter.

I guess I'm not all surprised about this. I wonder if this kind of thing happens all the time (the army lying about casualties)?
