well unless youve lived in a cave the past 4 days or so (and even then..... gary knows about this) you know Rita is fast growing and headed for mine and gary's little part of south Texas. So i figgured i would start making a log of preperations, panic attacks, updates about the storm ect.... as they come up

Yesterday was hectic... i had work and since i work at a pet store everyone and their mom was looking for pet carriers to get the hell out, but i think "why panic? its only a cat 1 and hasnt even got into the gulf yet...." later in the day i find out it has been upgraded to a cat 2 but is still headed straight west (yay). no biggie, board up the house and wait it out

I got up today and headed to school only to find classes have been cancled and the storm said something along the lines of "RAWR!" in the night and is a cat 4 now. now starts the problems.... ive been running back and forth all day doing varous jobs. So far its included picking up potential "missiles". Rocks, windchimes, decorations, anything that at high velocity can do alot of damage. and getting tools to my dad so we can start cuting plywood and boarding up the windows.

I will add to this as things develop......

wow... finally getting home and some time to breathe...

spent all day since my last post boarding up my dad's buisness and my grandparents house (what a time to go out of country huh?)

on the homefront were watching and waiting to see what this now cat 5 monster does. im also packing up my more valuable items so we can leave friday morning if need still be (which it seems like it will). Tomorow i get up early to start cutting our plywood and board up my house.

it seems almost sureal that this is happening, and you can feel the unrest in the air.

Some of my neighbors want to stay, and for that, i pity them. little to nothing stands up to winds of this magnitude for very long and when their houses give way..... well..........

At any rate, i still hope that the high pressure that is keeping this storm from slaming into New Orleans again stays where it is long enough that it hits south of us so we dont have to leave.

At this stregnth if it hits, i highly doubt ill have a home to come back to...

Well the storm is still gathering stregnth. Up to 210 gusts and 175 sustained winds. Sad thing is the pressure keeps droping which is a sign it could get stronger....

well im off to bed for tonight. got some of my more sentimental shit packed and ready for our evacuation

its unearthly quite outside..... no birds, no bugs, nothing other then the ocational saw or hammer.

traffic in the area is at an utter stand still and i have personal friends who havent made it more then 50 miles out of town in the hours theyve been on the roads. they are opening I45 south bound lanes to north bound traffic here soon and that should help aliveate alot of problems along those roadways. Other then that my family is leaving ahead of schedual to make damn sure were out of here when this bitch hits.

the storm itself has backed off just a bit and has gone down to 165 and seems to be turning north pretty well. as long as it keeps going my house will end up on the "clean" side of the storm and will have a better chance of making it through.

this will be last post from home as soon i am packing my baby up and moving out. I will try to make a mobile post from my phone and later from the hotel. time will tell what happens.

this is the first acess ive had in days just finding out my hotel has a "buisness" center with a pc set up for internet.

We managed to make it out of houston before the storm hit but holy SHIT the trafic was a parking lot. I re-set alot of my cars electronic stuff to calculate milage and stuff and heres what i got. At the worst part of the trip we went a total of 20 miles in 9 hours. obviously 2 miles an hour and at about 7 mpg (although idk how accurate that number is as my gas guage went down more that what i would equate to less then 3 gallons)

Interesting things during the trip included a bus of elderly people that blew up (guess that oxygen was really bad after all...) brush fires along the way. Evacuees looting a walmart and truck stop along the route, and a gun shop next to a cemetary.....

What is usually a 4-5 hour trip from Houston to Dallaas ended up being a 24 hour journey starting at about 2 the day of my last post and ending at 2 the next day when exsausted we pulled into our hotel. We only made a 1 hour stop during the trip to take a short nap as me and my dad were falling asleep at the wheel, but the nap was enough to get us going and find some gas and alot of energy drinks.

Post trip my body was suffering from a mixture of dehydration and utter exsaustion. being awake for almost 36 hours with only 1 hour sleep, and only drinking 5 bottles of water will do that to ya. Im just now finally recovering from these problems. It was so bad when we got to the hotel that my entire body was trembeling and even 12 hours of sleep left me wanting more.....

The storm itself hit about 40 miles east of my house (25 from garys) neighbors who stayed have said that we didnt get much more the cat 1 winds although the rain was bad at times.

As far as i know there was little damage to houses in the area although a few trees and power lines have been knocked down. I will take pictures as soon as i get back although i am leaving monday from here and i expect that most of the debris will be cleared by the time i return.

The storm continues to move north although it is slowing rapidly, both in speed and power. Now only a TS Rita is starting to stall over east texas, which may cause more problems then when came onshore.....

I shall post when available although i may not have much to report til i get back home and start cleaning up
