Yesterday was the 6th Anniversary of the Sega Dreamcast!

On 9/09/1999 Sega launched the Dreamcast on this specially selected date, which in the end couldn't help the poor console as it lost out in the next generation wars. 3 years after its launch, Sega announced that all production of the hardware had been ceased and that they would be focusing on software development for other consoles.

However, the SEGA Dreamcast was anything but a failure, and the greatest console of all time in my opinion. The Dreamcast was unquestionably one of the most innovative consoles. Not only did it bring online gaming to the mainstream console scene, it started the console mic, Dreamcast digital camera, a console keyboard, instrument controllers, and sooooooooo much more!

The Dreamcast never gets the credit or respect it deserves. I was reading a forum where someone said that the PS2 invented online gaming (not to say that the Dreamcast did). It remains one of those what-if consoles that was ahead of its time. The world was simply not ready for a 128 bit console.

The Dreamcast however, is nothing but dead. With a number of popular online games still working the Dreamcast has a hot underground scene, not to mention the hacked PSO server with more players than Gamecube PSO. Believe it or not new games for DC are still being released in Japan and there's thousands of homebrewed games for DC.

I still love to play my DC.. Games like Shenmue never get old. I still get new games for my DC regularly too - I have a HUGE collection with tons of rares, imports, and hard-to-finds.

Some of you that have a Dreamcast may never wish to clean the dust off it again. Some have never even played one. Either way, it doesn't hurt to remember once in a while the console that changed gaming forever, the little gray box that pwns all.
