The PSP, which has just been released in Japan, has a number of bugs packed along with its coolness. I present the first and official...

    The PSP Report[/b:eb825cdbcc]

Measuring 170mm by 74mm by 23mm, weighing 260g, with a 4.3-inch wide screen TFT LCD screen that displays 16.77 million colors, the PSP seems to be pretty slick. And speaking of slick, the menu interface is a work of art. The console design itself is decent in my opinion. While the original model was shaped more like a gameboy, the final design uses a lot from the PS2 controller.

The PSP has a variety of connectivity options. It supports USB 2.0 for wired connections to the PlayStation 2 and PC and employs 802.11b wireless LAN to connect to other PSPs and wireless devices. New software and updates can be downloaded from the PSP to a Memory Stick Pro Duo. It also allows for IR Remote and infrared connections, but I am clueless to how that is useful.

Inside the PSP is a 333MHz CPU, 2MB of main memory, 4MB of embedded DRAM, and a battery with a lifespan of about 2 hours. Sony has stated that the battery should last around six hours, which is true with simpler games. But with more graphically intensive games like Ridge Racers, the battery only lasts around 90 minutes! Playing with the wireless networking switch flipped on will also further reduce your battery life.

Sony is planning a wide range of PSP peripherals, including a stand, an IR remote controller, an external battery pack, a strap, a carry case, and special PSP-branded headphones. The PSP is looking to use a lot of the iPod's independence.

Reports from different Japanese sources confirmed different kinds of defects on the first shipment:
    - Button pressed, but it never comes back up
    - Dead pixels (a spot on the screen stops working)
    - Screen has air bubbles
    - Dust inside the screen
    - Analog control nub has fallen off!
    - Powered On but cannot start PSP
    - Twist PSP itself, UMD will fly out! (Video)
    http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~cf6y-oot/auto.avi - requires Quicktime
    - UMD cover can't close

Sony also seems to be continuing their tradition of malfunctioning products.

While the ultimate choice is up to the consumer, my only advice if you plan on purchasing is to wait for the next model. The PSP seems to have some serious bugs as well as a straining battery life.

Sony will always have problems with their first launch, and whoever buys them is their guinea pigs. They just send out a not-completely tested product out so people can spend their money and have it brake where it further benefits them. The first Playstation had bugs, the PS2 had bugs, the new Flat PS2 has many bugs reported, plus so many of them are crashing. To me its a junk product until the second wave comes out. Same with the PSP. Soon as it gets here: Crap, Crap, Crap!

Exactly man. Sony doesn't give a shit because they know they can make faulty products and they'll still sell billions. And even now the PS2 still has some bugs! You think they would've fixed them by now...

Indeed for that day to ever come sony would need to put product of money and take time to test continually and study the product which they wont do so we will never see it happen. And even though it has major bugs the PSP looks beautiful and its idea is great.
